Overview

Introducing the Custom LED ELFR-P Programmable Electronic Flasher Relay! This microcontroller-based electronic flasher relay features 10 preprogrammed, user-selectable flash patterns controlled by a 10-position rotary switch on the compact unit.

The ELFR-P is best suited for riders who want more than a standard hyper-flash fix. It can provide a normal DOT-style flash pattern, or a more attention-grabbing custom flash pattern, depending on the selected rotary-switch position.

ELFR-P shares the same general motorcycle compatibility as our ELFR-1 Electronic LED Flasher Relay, but it includes a longer fused harness and requires a separate ground-wire connection. Use our Motorcycle LED Flasher Relay Compatibility Guide to confirm whether your motorcycle is compatible with ELFR-1 before ordering ELFR-P.

The longer harness allows the programmable relay module to be mounted in a convenient location so the flash pattern selector remains accessible when desired.

If you only need to fix fast blink / hyper flash, and do not need selectable flash patterns, the standard ELFR-1 is usually the simpler choice.

See the Installation Tab for more important details.

Your motorcycle must have a rectified standard 12VDC system for this flasher relay to work (most bikes are 12VDC).

Compatibility

ELFR-P Compatibility

ELFR-P is the programmable specialty version for motorcycles that use ELFR-1. Use our Motorcycle LED Flasher Relay Compatibility Guide to confirm whether ELFR-1 is the correct Custom LED relay for your motorcycle before ordering ELFR-P.

Need to confirm compatibility? Search by motorcycle make, model, year, or OEM flasher relay part number. If the guide shows ELFR-1 for your motorcycle, ELFR-P may be used as the programmable alternative. Find My Relay

Important: ELFR-P requires a separate ground-wire connection in addition to the flasher relay connections. Confirm that there is enough room to mount the relay module and harness, and that the ground wire can be connected to a suitable chassis or battery negative ground point.

This guide is intended for U.S.-spec applications unless otherwise noted. Non-U.S. models, previous owner wiring changes, and mid-year production changes may differ. When in doubt, compare your motorcycle's original flasher relay connector before ordering.

Installation

The Custom LED ELFR-P Programmable Electronic Flasher Relay comes with detailed installation instructions.

Installation of this product requires that you identify and remove the OEM flasher relay on the motorcycle. If you are unfamiliar with the location of your OEM flasher relay, motorcycle wiring, or electronics in general, please consult a qualified technician or your repair manual for additional information.

Installation of the ELFR-P is as follows:

General installation guidance

ELFR-P includes a fused harness and a separate ground wire. The ground wire with loop connector must be connected to a common ground point, such as the motorcycle frame or battery negative terminal.

If your existing flasher relay is a two wire flasher relay, or a three wire flasher relay where the third wire is only a ground wire, and you have access to it, the ELFR-P may be installed in place of the OEM flasher relay.

Identify and connect the wires leading to the OEM flasher relay as follows:

  • Red wire on ELFR-P to power source (ignition switched +12v)
  • White wire on ELFR-P to load output (blinker lamps / blinker switch)
  • Ground wire on ELFR-P to a suitable chassis or battery negative ground point

NOTE: You may lose your self-canceling feature by replacing the flasher relay if your bike is equipped from the factory with self-canceling turn signals. If you want to keep this feature, use our Stage II Load Equalizers instead.

If you find that your motorcycle's flasher relay is not two-wire and/or replaceable, you may use the Custom LED Universal Load Equalizers along with your stock flasher relay instead.

NOTE: In some rare instances, when there are NO incandescent loads on the blinker system (LEDs front and rear), additional actions or components may also be required to prevent a wide range of blinker problems. These problems are all associated with a lack of resistive load on an all-LED blinker system that was designed for incandescent lamps. Problems such as, but not limited to: the 4-way hazard blink problem (both sides blinking at the same time), the no-blink problem, and Integrated LED Tail Lights staying in "blinker mode" due to non-zero blinker voltages. Rest assured that Custom LED has the knowledge, experience, and expertise to tackle any issues that may arise on your motorcycle.

Remember, the Flasher Relay ONLY controls the speed of the blinkers on the motorcycle, and any other problems that arise are independent of the flasher relay, and are resolved separately as well.
